About Me

Julian Clarke-Smith is an award-winning multi-camera director known for his creativity, versatility, and decades of experience across some of the UK and US’s most recognisable television and live event productions. With a career spanning entertainment, music, live events, theatre capture, festivals, and political programming, Julian has played a key role in launching and shaping numerous major formats.

His portfolio includes directing and launching hit shows such as Pointless, The One Show, Riddiculous, The Million Pound Drop, Big Brother, and What Would Your Kid Do?. Since 2004, he has been a core part of the BBC’s Glastonbury coverage, directing performances on the West Holts, Woodsies, and Other stages.

Julian currently serves as the series director for the BBC’s flagship political programme Question Time, and has also directed high-profile international productions including Queen of the Universe (Paramount+), RuPaul’s Lingo (CBS), and Name That Tune (FOX).

His expertise in large-scale live events includes leading the spectacular 3D projection launch of Newcastle United’s 2025 kit on the Baltic Building, and directing the global music concerts at COP28 in Dubai.

In the world of live music, Julian has directed iconic moments such as U2 performing on the roof of Broadcasting House, along with standout performances from artists including Kylie Minogue, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more.
